Help & FAQ

Three things explain almost everything below: your account and purchase live in the cloud (sign in or buy from any device, any time); your media lives on the machine that runs your Jellyfin server (if that machine is off, nothing streams - at home or away); and home is free on every device, while watching away runs on paired devices - your phone, or a Windows laptop joined with a pairing code - with the one-time unlock.

Prefer step-by-step? Set up Navarre walks every scenario - first setup, going remote, pairing, restoring - as numbered steps.

Getting started

What do I need to use Navarre?

Your own Jellyfin server - the free, self-hosted media server that holds your library - plus the Navarre app on the devices you watch on. Get every app on the download page. On your home network, everything is free on every platform.

What does the Windows app do?

Navarre for Windows plays your library like the other apps, and it is also the hub: it connects to your Jellyfin server and manages sharing, scoping, and remote access - your Jellyfin install itself stays stock, and Navarre never modifies it. Turning on watch-from-anywhere happens there, on the Windows PC that runs your server.

Windows flagged my download (SmartScreen). Is it safe?

The installer is digitally signed by Navarre Enterprises LLC, and Windows shows our name as the verified publisher. While a new release builds its reputation with Microsoft, you may see up to two prompts. In Edge, the download can pause with an "isn't commonly downloaded" notice - open the downloads flyout (Ctrl+J), click the ... menu on the file, choose Keep, then Keep anyway. When you run the installer, an Open File - Security Warning may ask "Do you want to run this file?" - check that the publisher reads Navarre Enterprises LLC, then click Run. If your PC shows "Windows protected your PC" instead, click More info → Run anyway. Want certainty? Every release's exact SHA-256 is published at navarre.tv/latest.json - compare it against PowerShell's Get-FileHash of your downloaded file.

How do I sign in? I never set a password.

There is no password. Navarre emails you a one-time code when you sign in - nothing to remember, nothing to leak.

Watch from anywhere

What exactly does the $19.99 unlock get me?

Away-from-home streaming from your own server, over an encrypted connection that runs on your own Tailscale account - your equipment, not ours. Switching it on publishes your Jellyfin server at a public HTTPS web address; the address is not a secret, so the passwords on your Jellyfin accounts are what keep other people out (that is why Navarre will not turn remote on while an enabled account has no password). Watching at home stays free on every device, unlocked or not - the one unlock is what lets your library leave the house. It is a one-time founding purchase ($29.99 list), tied to your account email, never a subscription. In this version, away-from-home watching runs on the Android phone app and on a second Windows PC - like a laptop - joined with a pairing code. Android TV plays on your home network.

My Jellyfin runs on a NAS / Mac / Linux box. Can I use remote?

Not yet. Home viewing is full and free on every device, but enabling remote in this version requires your Jellyfin server on a Windows PC with Navarre for Windows installed on that same PC. NAS support is next on the roadmap - we won't put a date on it until it's close.

Can I watch on my laptop at work or on vacation?

Yes. Install Navarre for Windows on the laptop, choose "I already use Navarre" during setup, and enter a pairing code from your home PC (on the server PC: Navarre → Settings → Watch from anywhere). The code signs the laptop in and it streams from anywhere, exactly like a paired phone, on the same unlock.

Already ran the full home-network setup on that laptop? You do not have to start over - open Navarre → Settings → Use this PC away from home and enter a pairing code. A laptop set up both ways plays over your home network at home and picks up the secure internet path once you leave, exactly like your phone (see what happens if you leave mid-episode). (A machine that only paired - and never did home setup - streams over the secure path wherever it is, until a future update adds a home-network fast path for paired-only devices.)

I bought the unlock while away from home. Why isn't remote working yet?

Purchases do not switch on the home server by themselves. Remote starts working after one click at home: on the Windows PC that runs your server, open Navarre → Settings → Watch from anywhere and enable it. Buying early is fine - the unlock waits on your account until you set up.

Can I buy before I've set anything up?

Yes. Your unlock is tied to your email, not a device. Set up whenever - sign in with the same email and it is there.

I left the house mid-episode. Why did playback stall?

Because the connection it was already streaming over went away with your home network. Navarre picks the secure internet path back up on your next action rather than mid-stream: back out to the title, press play again, and it continues over the secure path. The same is true in reverse when you get home. Expect a short interruption at the moment your network changes - it is not a reason to restart the app or re-pair the device.

I'm traveling and nothing streams. What's the first thing to check?

Whether the server PC at home is awake. Watching away from home needs your server PC on - it is both the media source and the machine that publishes the address your devices connect to. Before a trip, set Windows to never sleep (or enable wake timers).

Can I watch on a friend's TV in another house?

Not in this version - the TV app joins your library over your home network, so it works on TVs in your home. On your phone or a paired Windows laptop, your library travels with you anywhere, including to a friend's couch.

I have two houses with two servers. Supported?

One home server per account is the designed path in this version. If a second-home setup matters to you, tell us at support@navarre.tv - real demand shapes what we build next.

Everyday questions

My internet is down. Does Navarre still work?

At home, yes - browsing and playback on your own network are fully local and keep working with no internet at all. Remote obviously needs the connection back.

I rebuilt or moved my Jellyfin server. Why won't devices connect?

Navarre devices verify your server's identity, so a rebuilt server looks like a stranger until you say otherwise. Fix: on the server PC, open Navarre, enable remote again, and re-pair your devices. Devices at home can simply re-run their quick setup.

What happens if I refund?

Your remote entitlement is revoked, and away-from-home streaming stops the next time an app starts and can reach us - usually right away. Because the tunnel runs on your own account and your own hardware, we disable the entitlement and your apps enforce it - we never reach into your equipment. Watching at home stays free forever - it was never paid. Our refund policy is a 14-day money-back guarantee, no hoops.

How do I delete my account?

On your Android phone or in Navarre for Windows: Settings → Delete account. Or email us - full details on the deletion page. Your media is on your own server and was never ours to hold.

Still stuck? Email support@navarre.tv and a human will answer. Include what you were doing, what you expected, and what happened instead - it usually makes the fix one reply instead of three.
