Set up Navarre

Pick the line that sounds like you, and follow the numbered steps. Two ground rules make everything below simple: watching at home is free on every device and needs no account at all, and your one-time unlock lives on your email address, not on any device.

The two codes, so nothing surprises you: a sign-in code is emailed to you to prove it's your account - there are no passwords in Navarre. A pairing code (looks like PAIR-A1B2C3) comes from your own screen at home, links one device to your library, works once, and expires in minutes. If a screen says "code," check which one it wants.

I have a PC full of media and a Jellyfin server - I want to watch at home

Before step one: Navarre needs an existing Jellyfin server holding your library. Not running Jellyfin yet? Set it up first at jellyfin.org - it is free, and Navarre takes it from there.

  1. Windows PCInstall Navarre for Windows from the download page on the PC where your media lives. It plays your library, and it handles pairing, remote access, and device housekeeping for your other Navarre apps. Your Jellyfin server stays exactly as it is - Navarre installs alongside it and never modifies it.
  2. Windows PCFollow the first-run setup: point Navarre at your existing Jellyfin server and sign in with your server user.
  3. TV / phoneInstall the Navarre app, and connect it to your server when asked - on most home networks it finds the server by itself, and if it doesn't, type the server's address (Jellyfin shows it on its dashboard). Sign in with your server user (the one from setup - this is your local library login, not an email).
  4. CouchThat's it. Home viewing is free on every device, forever - no account, no purchase, nothing recurring.

I want my library with me away from home

One purchase, four steps. In this version, away-from-home playback runs on your Android phone and on a paired Windows laptop; TVs play on your home network.

  1. Windows PCOn the PC that runs your server, open Navarre → Settings → Watch from anywhere and sign in with your email. A sign-in code lands in your inbox - enter it and your Navarre account exists. (You can also sign in from the TV or phone app - same account either way.)
  2. Any deviceUnlock once: $19.99, one time, never a subscription. Pay by card on the PC, or with Google Play on your phone - and your TV offers the unlock too once your computer is linked (step 3). The unlock attaches to your email. Buying early is fine; it waits on your account.
  3. Windows PCBack on the server PC, turn on watch-from-anywhere. This publishes your server at a public web address on the internet, over an encrypted connection on your own Tailscale account - no port forwarding, no router surgery. The address is not a secret, so the passwords on your Jellyfin accounts are what keep other people out. You choose which libraries are reachable away; the ones you leave out stay home. The same switch turns it all back off.
  4. Windows PC or TVCreate a pairing code (Settings → Watch from anywhere). On your phone, choose "I have a pairing code" and enter it within a few minutes. Your library now travels with you.
Why does the unlock happen anywhere, but the switch only at home? The purchase is yours (it follows your email); the public address belongs to your server, so it is switched on at the machine that owns your media. One purchase, one switch, then pair as many of your devices as you like.

I'm unlocked - I want to pair a family phone or a laptop

  1. Windows PC or TVOpen Settings → Watch from anywhere → Create a pairing code. Codes are single-use and expire in minutes - make a fresh one for each device.
  2. Their phoneInstall Navarre, choose "I have a pairing code," and enter it. Done.
  3. A laptopInstall Navarre for Windows and choose "I already use Navarre" during setup, then enter the pairing code. (Laptop already set up for home use? Use Settings → Use this PC away from home instead - it then plays locally at home and switches to the secure path when you leave.)

New PC, reinstall, or "I already bought this"

  1. Any deviceSign in with the same email you used before - the sign-in code proves it's you, and your unlock is already on the account.
  2. Any deviceIf a screen still shows the unlock price, press Restore purchase. Nothing is ever bought twice.
  3. Windows PCMoved your server to a new PC? Run home setup there (scenario one), sign in, and turn watch-from-anywhere back on. Then re-pair away devices with fresh pairing codes.
